About Sonya LoCascio

My name is Sonya LoCascio.  I am blessed to begin my 29th year of teaching. Each of those years right here at Idalou Middle School in the exact same classroom where it all began!  I teach 7th grade honors math, 8th grade math, 8th grade honors math, and 8th grade RTI.  In addition to classroom duties, I sponsor National Junior Honor Society, UIL math, number sense, and editorial writing. It keeps me busy, but I love it!

I am happily married to my husband of twenty-eight years.  Lubbock natives, we moved to Idalou in 2007.   We have two fabulous children.  Our son graduated from IHS in 2015 and Texas Tech University in 2020. Our daughter is a 2019 IHS graduate who now attends Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.  Idalou schools provided my children with an excellent education and set them a path for success.

In 2022, Idalou Middle School named me the Teacher of the Year for our campus.  In 2017, I was honored to receive the Helen I. Medley award from my alma mater, Texas Tech University.  The Helen I. Medley Award for Outstanding Mathematics Teacher is an annual award rewarding outstanding middle and high school mathematics teachers who have made a difference in the lives of their students.
